I wrote about why Taylor Sheridan left Paramount to go to NBCUniversal in a $1B deal. It’s a shock because he turned “Yellowstone” into IP worth $3B (the most viewed show on TV) and made 8 more shows that carried Paramount+ streaming. What happened? readtrung.com/p/taylor-sheri…

More details: > Sheridan will keep makign TV shows with Paramount through 2028 > He can start making films for NBCUniversal next year > Paramount owns IP for his current TV output (see below) and also for upcoming shows (Dutton Ranch, Y: Marshals, The Madison and 1944) > “Call of Duty” film he’s writing and Pete Berg directing is also under Paramount

feels like the real story here is that sheridan needed more creative control than paramount was letting him have. making content is one thing but owning the ability to take it anywhere is what's scarce. plus he probably saw the writing on the wall with paramount's streaming struggles

Yep agreed. Almost certainly main reason. Same reason he started hollywood career with indie films (less studio input) and previous paramount gave him a blank check to float the streaming service

He’s not leaving Paramount for a few more years. When you say ‘left Paramount’ it sounds like he’s gone. He’s not. And why? You answered it with $1B deal. And well known fact never discussed - that guy is a massive prick / pain in the ass. And past success in this biz doesn’t mean future

So, what happens with Landman. Just another season and it’s cooked?
he has 3 more years with paramount tv (can make films next year for NBCuniversal though)…then Paramount owns IP, so could keep making it without him

Sheridan's move to NBCUniversal is a significant shift in the TV landscape.

I've never seen any of them so it doesn't matter.

Don’t forget that Peacock was streaming Yellowstone first and that may have been the signal to them that his product was better than anything they had.
