Vince Gilligan on pitching the original concept for #Pluribus when execs were asking, “What’s next in the ‘Breaking Bad’ world?”: “We live in a world of IP, where the safest thing to do is reboot something that has an audience. I wanted to prove to myself I wasn’t a one-trick pony. It’s harder than it’s ever been to get something made that’s not based on a previous movie or comic book or video game. Every generation deserves its own stories, instead of just the stories of their grandparents.” wp.me/pc8uak-1lGwMi

Vince Gilligan has proven he is not a one trick pony. The pilot is the single best episode of anything I have seen in the past 10 years.

I just watched this interview with RJ Mitte aka Walt Jr. It was pretty interesting. piped.video/5zHqkupx_w0?si=zVyE…

If, after the Cambrian explosion around 540 million years ago, countless species possessing the capacity for biological immortality had emerged on Earth, how might that have transformed the course of evolution? Would immortality have become an evolutionary dead end — or, conversely, a new chapter in life's ascent?

I firmly believe this. Enough reboots.

execs when they find out they can fund original movies/shows instead of projects that are based off an existing IP:

all he did was turn a rick and morty episode into a show

Glad Vince is using his stature in Hollywood to fight for more original projects. Sad that Hollywood much like AI can’t make anything original and only uses what exists. Hopefully Pluribus starts a new trend of original TV shows, can’t wait to watch it tonight.

says the guy who milked the Breaking Bad IP for all its worth with 6 seasons of better call saul... Breaking Bad first aired in 2008. He took 17 years to finally make a new IP 😭

Good for him. He went for it. I thinks it's worth pointing out, however, that some of those stories from the "grandparents" are timeless. That's why they endure.

Refreshing to hear. Fresh, new stories instead of doing bad remakes of things that were done better the first time, or diminishing sequels that can't carry the gravitas of the OG. BB & Better Call Saul were incredible & complete. I can't wait to see what new tales are in store.

Nothing should be “next in the breaking bad world.” The show ended. It’s over. That’s all folks. Go make something new.
