Breaking: DCA is now under a federal NOTAM blocking all private and non-scheduled flights through Dec. 31 — unless they’re based at the airport or get special FAA approval. Airline flights aren’t affected. 10 other airports have this new order. Boston and Vegas already had a similar order in place.

This is specifically for DCA (Ronald Reagan National Airport/Washington DC) and is in effect through the end of the year. It’s fairly common in Boston and Las Vegas, but not so much at DCA.

BREAKING: U.S. Government shutdown now projected to end this Thursday or Friday.

TRAVELERS, BRACE YOURSELVES: More than 2,000 flights are already canceled or delayed today as the FAA pulls back operations during the shutdown. The FAA implemented a 4% mandatory reduction in flights this weekend to manage staffing. That will increase to 6% on Tuesday and 10% reduction by this upcoming weekend.
