It’s the same story every year. My throat is sore and my head is groggy. The common man suffers with asthma and bronchitis cases while those of us with a purifier in every room make social media noise. This can’t be the price we pay collectively on the way to Viksit Bharat. How much capital will it need to give every farmer in Punjab and Haryana a Happy Seeder Machine that helps them plant wheat crops into the rice straw without burning the stubble ? A GPT-5 estimate on this is 1000 crores. This along with a complete ban on farm fires in these two states. We can’t live with this forever or it may lead to exodus of talent and companies from this region.

Still hoping we get a good and moist cloud cover one of these days so that cloud seeding can be successful. @agrawalmanindra and the team at @IITKanpur has worked hard on it this time around.

We can launch an e-commerce store where farmers from Punjab, Haryana, UP can list their parali stockpile as sellers while Delhi NCR people can bid and buy online so farmers don’t have to burn and choke our cities. Should be cheaper than air purifiers and doctor visits. :)

The stockpile will double the next year - look up the cobra effect

I doubt 1000 crore will solve this problem. Gov needs to commodities the stubble then only this will reduce this menace.

Nope that will only lead to more stubble - look up "cobra effect"

I have stayed in Delhi two years ago. AQI was obviously bad, one day heavy rains came and I felt that AQI would be good atleast for a week now. But AQI went from good to poor within just 2 days. Post reading I understood the problem is slow moving winds and the bowl topography of Delhi. In winter, cooler air near the surface gets trapped under a layer of warmer air higher up in the atmosphere. This creates an atmospheric "lid" that prevents vertical mixing of air, concentrating pollutants at ground level and forming thick smog. This makes solving the AQI problem very very difficult.

We need to create wind corridors so air can flow faster. In the last 20 years, China has become the world’s most enthusiastic adopter of policies promoting wind corridors.

1000 Cr? You can give even 10000 Cr to these 'farmers' and still they will continue to burn stubble... And Govts can't do anything to these monsters as Govts are owned by them

It’s not the farm fires, that’s passing the buck in true delhi style. The drive from one end to punjab has clear blue skies. The problem starts as soon as you enter delhi.

And why isn't the government taking it seriously? It is an emergency! The capital of the country is suffering! And Gurgaon, which is a huge contributor to the growth and economy of the country is suffering! We cannot afford it and can't play with this issue like that

Why gamble with talent exodus and health every year? 1000 crores on Happy Seeders sounds cheaper than endless purifier posts. Still waiting for some real action.

Compare that to the tens of thousands of crores for the populist sops that this government is spending ? Our polity can’t think beyond winning elections. The common man in India is truly voiceless and doomed !

You gave Delhi to @narendramodi now give Punjab also to him and in a couple of years this pollution problem is over! Modi doesn't forgive those who do not vote for him!

You are addressing the wrong problem , stubble burning is not the top 3 factor , Delhi NCR 's local pollution , construction activities , combined with the cold weather is the issue .. firecrackers and the farm residue smoke are just the tipping factor

Nothing will change. The issue is not just stumble burning its poor waste management, improper road cleaning, construction dust, micro plastic and rubber fines along with huge vehicular emissions with urban jungle creating hot spots. Know to everyone however no concrete actions.

More than the farm fires if the local authorities and the state government can fix the roads. Huge amount of dust due to potholes, bad, dug up, unfinished roads, sidewalks, pavements not done up. @cleanAirBharat @MoHFW_INDIA @cmohry @MunCorpGurugram @PMOIndia @CPCB_OFFICIAL
