I agree with this. Daily life won’t change that much this decade, but everything will change next decade - slowly, then all of a sudden
My baseline case is that the AI being built right now is overrated; soon it will be a disappointment; then it will be a bubble; and, by the 2030s, it will be world-changing.
Self-driving cars are a model for this.
- In 2015, I heard autonomy was 5 years away from taking over the roads.
- In 2020, they were nowhere.
- Even in 2022, you could say they were a huge disappointment.
- Now, they're quietly a revolution.
Driverless taxi usage in CA grew 8x in one year, and Waymo is expanding to other cities.

Yesterday was an incredible day for our merchants and for Shopify:
* Merchants drove a record-breaking $5 billion Black Friday in sales (GMV)
* Peak sales / minute for yesterday = $4.6 million
* Shopify's egress processed more than 173B requests
* Peak requests per minute was at 284 million on edge, with more than 80 million on app servers pushing 12TB a minute
* 45 million peak database queries per second, peak database writes was 7.6 million per second
* We rely on Kafka. At peak we hit 66 million messages per second

I just learned that Brian Chesky would never have given the famous talk that led to "Founder Mode" if Ron Conway hadn't nagged him to attend the event where he gave it. Brian had been thinking of blowing it off but Ron kept sending him texts saying he had to "SUPPORT FOUNDERS!!!"
Airbnb just reached 2 billion guests. It took 14 years to get to our first billion and only 3 more years to reach the second. Thank you to everyone for giving us a chance.
