Historical temples having distinct identity that showcases the Indian mason's prowess during the times of great empires of Chola, Pandya and ancient Pandava (Mahabharata times) empire in North around 8th to 12th century. It is because of the architectural excellence and the marvel of structures carved in stones or out of stones that these temples are known across the World by Hindu worshippers. The topmost mound on the Thanjavur located Brihadeshwara temple is said to be around 80 tonnes invokes curiosity over the efforts and mechanics that could have been used to place this heavy rock on the top. The most significant and widely recognized excavated bodily relics of the Buddha are the Piprahwa Relics and the Relics from Nagarjunakonda. These relics, primarily bone fragments, are housed in major museums and temples around the world. The Piprahwa Relics (Kapilavastu Relics) Discovered in 1898 during excavations of a stupa in Piprahwa, Uttar Pradesh, India (identified as ancient Kapilavastu), these relics are inscribed as belonging to the Buddha and his Sakya clan. Contents: The initial discovery by William Claxton PeppΓ© included bone fragments, ashes, a sandstone coffer, and various precious stones in crystal caskets. Further excavations by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in the 1970s unearthed additional bone relics in steatite caskets. Current Locations: National Museum, New Delhi: The majority of the 22 bone fragments and other items discovered in the 1970s are preserved here. Portions of these are frequently sent on international expositions to countries like Thailand, Mongolia, and Vietnam for veneration. Indian Museum, Kolkata: The large stone coffer that held the original relics is on display here Waskaduwa Viharaya, Sri Lanka: A portion of the original 1898 relics was gifted to the chief monk of this temple.
