Staff at Hope Zoo in Kingston spent Saturday securing more than 1,500 animals as Hurricane Melissa threatens to become one of the most powerful storms to impact Jamaica. General Curator Joey Brown shared that the preparation effort was “exhausting and stressful,” but the team worked around the clock to reinforce enclosures and put emergency safety measures in place for mammals, birds, and reptiles across the facility. Brown thanked the “amazing team” that pulled together to protect the zoo’s animals ahead of the hurricane's arrival. He admitted that with preparations now complete, all they can do is monitor conditions and hope for the best over the coming days. The zoo, like the rest of the country, is bracing for life-threatening winds, storm surge, and heavy rains as Hurricane Melissa moves closer to Jamaica. #HurricaneMelissa #Jamaica #JamaicaObserver #EyeonMelissa #ObservingMelissa #Melissa
