Be as exact as you can be when telling anybody anything. If anything, underpromise and overdeliver. If you consistently do this throughout your career, people will want you around. If you do the opposite, people will avoid working with you. Words matter. Use them well, and it will come back to serve you even better.

What a surreal view of the church in Michigan that was attacked this morning, which is a meetinghouse for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The world is in an increasingly chaotic state of turmoil. We have been taught that in the latter days, men’s hearts would fail them. We know that as the Second Coming of Jesus Christ approaches, believers will face more and more opposition. This month has made it extremely clear that these things are coming to pass exactly as has been prophesied. President Nelson taught us that despite the increasing wickedness and turmoil in our society, we can overcome the world and find peace by making and keeping covenants with God. We need more peacemakers. We need people to stand up for good and to not be quiet in doing so. We must actively love and serve others, following in the footsteps of our Savior. Turn towards your neighbor and tell them you love them. Bring them some cookies. Invite them over. Get to know them. As we turn strangers and neighbors into friends, we can hopefully provide an antidote to the chaos that continues to grow. I believe in Christ, and I believe He will come again. There is so much good in the world, despite what the news focuses on. Even as this building burns to the ground, millions of people of all religions gather today to worship Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. God is good. There is hope and peace in Christ.

What’s something you’ve used AI for that you never would have tried before AI? Obviously, YouTube is a great place to find all kinds of tutorials. But it’s often difficult on YouTube to find exactly what you’re looking for. I bought an old ATV on KSL for $1,000 for work around the farm and it’s worked great, until we lost the key! Since the ATV is a 2006 model, it was a bit hard to figure out what I needed. I actually ordered the wrong part because an Amazon listing was incorrectly labeled. But then I turned to ChatGPT, and it quickly helped me identify exactly what I needed and walked me through step by step how to fix it. That is something I might not have tried in the past. I have found AI to be extremely helpful at getting me to figure things out on my own. A year ago, I never would have dreamed of coding something by myself. Now, I’ve made over 100 apps and taught thousands of people how to do it. AI is so empowering when you point it at the right things. What’s something you’ve tackled with AI that you might not have without it?

I’m grateful for the extra focus this week has brought to Jesus Christ. Charlie Kirk never spoke without acknowledging his Savior. So many people posted yesterday and today that they would be going to church either for the first time ever or for the first time in a very long time. It is a tragedy that we lost a great man in the way we did, but his death has clearly kicked off positive changes in millions of people. Sometimes, it’s hard to understand why bad things happen. But I trust in God’s plan. And it appears that God will be able to use Charlie on the other side right now, and in His infinite wisdom, his passing will lead to so many more people coming to Christ on this side. God is good.

I just got off of an amazing call with a bunch of people smarter than me. I love being in rooms where I'm just sucking in information. My "How to Build a Business in a Weekend with AI" course continues to deliver incredible results for those that take it. They are launching businesses, improving internal processes, and leveling up so that they can accomplish so much more. The combination of entrepreneurship + practical and powerful AI training and discussions is what's making this really do well for those that show up. My next course is next Tues/Wed, and there are a few spots left. I'll drop the link in the first comment below. If you have been on the fence, get off and jump in. The older I get, the more I am understanding the value of being in the room with the right people that know what to do. See you inside. DM me if you have any questions.

ChatGPT 5 was kind of a letdown for a lot of people, so Sam Altman quickly changed the conversation to ChatGPT 6. It will likely be released this year, and it will come with improved memory. Context is one of the most important and least understood parts of effectively using AI. As a simple example, my ChatGPT knows that I'm a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. So if I ask it a religious question or something maybe related to an activity that happens on Sunday, it would know to answer with that context in mind. If I were a Jewish person, I wouldn't want the same answer as a Latter-day Saint. I would want a Jewish answer! The important thing here is helping your AI understand your background can dramatically improve the quality of the output you receive. If it understands that I am an entrepreneur and I have successfully started and sold a company, it will speak to me differently as I talk to it about a new idea. ChatGPT 6 aims to improve this feature dramatically so that it truly understands me and my unique life. There are privacy concerns of course, but that can be solved through many solutions that already exist today. The cool thing about this kind of approach, when done right, is that your AI will just keep getting better and better at helping you because it understands you as an individual. That is a huge push for the future of AI--less focus on the huge "AI knows everything" approach and more focus on the "AI knows the right thing for me" approach.
Are unicorns dead because of AI? Not a chance. There are still tons of business ideas that can grow to become billion dollar companies. For example, even if you can build a new social network, the value in that software is not in the code—it’s in the user base. A social network is worth nothing without users. Unless you just like being alone? There is also still the value calculation that has to happen for everyone with buy vs build. Take Calendly as an example. Can I rebuild Calendly’s primary functionality in an hour with vibe coding? Absolutely. But then, I’ll have to maintain that code. And I won’t have all the cool bells and whistles that Calendly brings. The amount of time and effort it would take for me to maintain that service just for my own business would far outweigh what I could just pay for it. At $11/month, I’m going to win big time by taking advantage of the economy of scale that Calendly brings. Unicorn opportunity is not gone. Will there be adjustment to the market? Absolutely. But opportunities will abound in this new economy.

New hymn arrangement released today! "It Is Well With My Soul" is such a beautiful hymn, and I'm proud and excited to release this new arrangement. It can be streamed from all major streaming platforms. You can find your favorite streaming service here to listen to it: joncheney.hearnow.com/it-is-… Sheet music is available at my website at joncheney.com if you're a piano player. I don't make tons of money from my music, but it brings me a ton of joy every time I write new music and share it with the world. Happy Sunday! Enjoy.

Releasing this as a single. Been fun to work on this song amidst all the chaos happening tonight. This hymn is called “It Is Well With My Soul.”

I present to you, the double em dash—— When you see this, you’ll know it was written by AGI (artificial general intelligence). It’s not here yet. But it is twice the size of the normal em dash. The triple em dash will be ASI (artificial super intelligence). Wait for it———how does that feel? When we get to the quadruple em dash, we’re likely being controlled by Skynet.

AI continues to replace entire industries. I started a company in 2016 became one of the leading AR companies out there by 2019, valued at over $100M at its peak. We sold Seek/Ocavu last year and it had already been negatively affected by AI at that point. Not only is this company, SpAltial, building worlds in 3D with just text-based prompts, it’s also bringing in the associated physics. At Seek, we had customers ranging from Meta to Google and LEGO to Snapchat. But AI came in absolutely demolished the industry. What used to take hundreds or thousands of dollars per model became pennies. No matter how good our company was, AI wins that battle 10/10 times. Even as you do your best to learn AI and improve your business, you may have to completely shift your business model with AI in the picture. I can help you navigate this. Send me a DM if you want to start a dialogue. #AR #AI #strategy #innovation #marketdynamics

My 12 year old son spoke in church today. This morning, I woke up and asked him to read his talk to me. As soon as I finished, I asked him if he had written it or if he had asked ChatGPT to write it. He looked down and said, “ChatGPT…”. I asked him to sit down and actually write out his thoughts. He started and then told me he couldn’t think of good things to write. So I sat down, opened up my phone, and then I started asking him questions about the topic. I typed out his answers word for word. I asked him follow up questions about his answers and typed up those responses. After about 10 minutes of this discussion, I copied the notes I had taken from him and texted it to him. We then opened ChatGPT and gave the following prompt: “Use these thoughts to organize a 4-minute talk about this topic. Don’t change the way that things are said or which words are used other than to correct minor grammatical errors. Just arrange these thoughts in a way that flows naturally.” The output was now a well-structured talk with all of my son’s thoughts, feelings, and phrases. He then copied that into a note on his phone and I asked him to go through and add anything else he wanted. It was now HIS talk, and not some lifeless outputs from ChatGPT. He gave the talk and it was excellent. He got lots of compliments and people were impressed by it. This is an incredible way to effectively use AI and not have it do your work for you. I’m not interested in just reading posts written by AI—I want to learn from and hear from real people. But having AI organize and improve the flow of something while retaining all of your words and thoughts is incredibly productive and will create far better and meaningful outputs.
