My guess is the metallic heat tile rapidly oxidized and deposited what is essentially rust all over the heat shield.

It cause by heat during reentry on next generation of heatshield asi think it is good thing so the SpaceX team able to identify the shade of colour from dark to light orange which is highest temperature range that they can increase heat resistance on hot spot and damaged

Someone noted that the colors originated at some active cooling tiles they tested.. So whatever fluid the pumped through the tile vaporized in the plasma and deposited on the tiles. I'm guessing methane mixed with something.
