LeBron James might still be on the Cavs today...
If Cleveland had gotten Paul George in 2017 like they wanted 👀
In the new book, "A Hollywood Ending: The Dreams and Drama of the LeBron Lakers," author Yaron Weitzman reveals some new details about the situation.
Right after the 2017 Finals, LeBron and some of his Cavs teammates held a player's meeting at the hotel.
They knew they needed a star to keep up with the Steph Curry-Kevin Durant Warriors. And they had one player in mind:
Pacers star Paul George ⭐️
At that point, everyone knew the Pacers were willing to trade him.
Cavs guard Dahntay Jones texted George, which led PG-13 to a private dinner with James at his Brentwood home.
LeBron's recruiting pitch was successful, and George was ready to be a Cavalier.
There was even a 3-team deal in place:
🔸 Cavs receive: Paul George
🔸 Nuggets receive: Kevin Love
🔸 Pacers receive: Gary Harris and draft picks
The only reason it fell through? Kevin Pritchard (Pacers president of basketball operations) felt that George going to The Land would have one extra implication:
LeBron was likely to stay on the Cavs long-term.
At the time, LeBron had been to the Finals for 7 straight years, and the Pacers wanted him out of the conference. So at the last second, they pivoted away from the Cavs' deal 👀
Indiana dealt George to the Thunder.
Kyrie Irving requested a trade that summer.
James left for LA in 2018.
But imagine if the Paul George trade HAD happened 🍿
