As we approach Veterans Day, I shared a story of being ambushed in Afghanistan on @brammeierjoe's podcast. Joe and I have been friends since elementary school. I'm forever grateful to God for our survival and incredibly proud of how my men responded to enemy contact.

Boomers simply dont appreciate the radicalizing nature of the last 5 years. For them its a blip in their overall decent life. For those in 20s it was the time to lay a foundation, to buy a house, meet a spouse, have a child. Destroying those years destroys hope for a decent life

Fun subplot: Even after the longest government shutdown ever, there's zero momentum to stop governing by CR like a failed state
This is officially the deal, per source familiar. Led by King, Shaheen, Hassan -CR through Jan 30 -A vote on ACA bill of Dem choosing in December - Minibus -Reversal of shutdown RIFs w/ back pay -SNAP funded through FY26

I have a good friend who retired from the theater, got married to his husband, and now does drag as Carol Channing, and he’s still not nearly as gay as these two.

Great graphic from the WSJ on the housing crisis: Home prices to buyer income ratio went sky high in 2021 and is barely budging This is the whole ball game
bear in mind this analysis is coming from @TPCarney's 2017 co-worker lightning tournament champion

Listening to @herandrews @LeahLibresco and @DouthatNYT, I literally thought to myself how unlikely it now seems to have three cultural leftists engaging honestly on that level. Some are certainly capable but many are ceding a lot of important and engaging ground by instinctively excusing themselves from persuasion because they seized control of the gates for so long and got used to booting anything slightly to the right of Mao.

Just win the argument if you think it’s so dumb.
What happened, @nytimes? Why not stand by your original headline? Because it’s absolutely an accurate representation of this trash conversation. To publish this at all should be a fireable offense - but to publish it as women’s rights are being decimated is deeply immoral, bordering on evil

DILLON: Part of the issue with the Trump team is that half the admin and the ppl around them believe America needs an aristocracy to run the country. Bannon, on the other side, is saying, I hate this tech oligarchy, I hate them, I don’t want anything to do with them. Half of the Trump admin is asking how to tank the economy, rebuild it their way, and remove constitutional limits. They see the government as failed and want to replace it with an AI-run oligarchy of tech feudalists. Jobs will vanish, crypto will replace income, and citizens will be surveilled and confined.

“John Brennan did vote for a communist in a presidential election…and somehow he ended up head of the CIA.” @Heminator and @emilyjashinsky discuss "bad man" John Brennan and how he snapped at man who confronted him about Hunter Biden's laptop. Watch and subscribe: piped.video/@AfterPartyEmily…
A better system we definitely won't get: nuke the filibuster, move the bureaucracy under presidential control, restore war/tariff powers to Congress... Let the chips fall.
There are certainly arguments for not nuking the filibuster but I think it would be overall good for us to get what we vote for, good and hard

Lina Khan: “Candidly at this moment when we are seeing unprecedented levels of corruption from the Republican Party and total pay to play, the idea that our response to that should be, ‘okay, maybe we should be a little bit more corrupt too’ is frankly mind boggling to me.” #crookedcon2025
“He doesn’t understand our system of federalism…it’s not his city completely.” @VDHanson and @emilyjashinsky discuss why Mamdani won, what he misses about governing, and the vulgar moment at his victory party. Watch and download: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas…... open.spotify.com/show/0szVa3…

📺 @emilyjashinsky talks with author @BenFreemanDC about his book 'The Trillion Dollar War Machine' amid the backdrop of potential new wars in Venezuela and Nigeria.
This is getting dunked on but it's very much a thing. Capitalists believe markets are just because employers and employees enter into voluntary agreements. Smartphones have gradually changed these terms in ways we've not yet fully adjusted to because they seemed trivial at first and we still haven't quite reckoned with the reality of what we do on them. If you're texting about shift scheduling for 30 minutes on a day off, you're working. That matters! So it's voluntary for now, yes, but I think we'll look back on this era of unregulated time creep as an adjustment period eventually.
Time is an under-recognised social determinant of brain health. In The Lancet Healthy Longevity, authors call for temporal justice through research and policies that recognise time as both a resource and a site of inequity in ageing and dementia: hubs.li/Q03R4bCV0
