🏆 And the nominees are.... After a ~week of research and hours of (passionate, emotional, deeply thoughtful) debate, we are ready to announce all the nominees for the 2025 𝝠 Expo App Awards! They are broken down by category below. Before getting into the list we want to share our gratitude to everyone who submitted. For us, this review process has been both painful and beautiful. It hurt to remove apps from contention. But it was validating to see the incredible work y'all are doing. Thank you to all of you! ♢ App of the year: @Starlink, @partiful, @fusewallet, @runna, @krakenfx, @PrizePicks ♢ Most creative: Zona, Callie, @partiful, RX Connect, SeaPeople, @fusewallet ♢ Community's choice: @learnwithiago, Lingvano, Readwell, Fig, @VoidpetGame, @TheAtlantic ♢ Largest scale: @phantom, @JackBox, @Rippling, @brexHQ, @KickStreaming, @pizzahut ♢ Most innovative: Sanas, Cosmy, @v0, @CoupleJoyApp, @Starlink, @bluesky 👏Congrats to all the nominees! To see and explore all these apps visit expo.dev/awards
🙌 These are the big dawgs that scale across millions of users. They all have pretty distinct requirements (except the two quick service restaurants). And they are all deeply impressive: ♢ @phantom is a popular crypto wallet but it does way more than you even realize. And the performance is fantastic. ♢ @JackBox is not your average QSR app. For example, they are running a "Gremlins" campaign in the app right now. ♢ @Rippling this is a hard problem to solve. Unifying HR, IT, Finance, Facilities management into one app at massive scale 😅 ♢ @brexHQ has hard requirements as you would expect from a Finserv app. We use Brex and Expo and can feel the quality and care. ♢ @KickStreaming live video streaming to everyone, everywhere, all the time. That's challenging. ♢ @pizzahut the sheer number of users and locations is just overwhelming. People love pizza. And we love this app. See all the nominees here: expo.dev/awards Tune in to the livestream to see us announce the winners: piped.video/live/KnZ3LWkXzSk…

Great video from @donttrythis about the level of thought and care that goes into the mechanical keyboards we are giving as awards to the winners of the Expo App Awards: piped.video/N3FEv1qw4_w?si=kirH… We chose this award with intention. We wanted something real, that reflected the level of thought and care that goes into building an app.
🙌 These apps are all fantastic. No idea what the community is going to prefer. ♢ @learnwithiago is just a completely unique experience. You have to try it to understand. ♢ Readwell is the app a lot of us have been waiting for. Excellent book recs. ♢ @FoodIsGoodCo - Food Is Good is practical and effective. It's hard to think in the grocery store. Fig is an extremely helpful companion. ♢ Lingvano gets you to value so fast. In 5 minutes you can 100x your sign language. ♢ @VoidpetGame is smooth. The animations are clean. The haptics feel great. A lot of care went into this app and you can feel it. ♢ @TheAtlantic figured it out. This is what a news app should feel like. We will post a poll next wednesday here, on Linkedin, and bluesky and then count the aggregate votes to declare a winner. expo.dev/awards #ExpoAppAwards

If you have a bare RN app today and you're intrigued by Expo just know that you do not need to commit to Expo everywhere. The smartest teams start incrementally and add value in the areas that hurt most. ◆ Use EAS Build to eliminate flaky local builds ◆ Add EAS Update for instant bug fixes ◆ Replace one custom module at a time with maintained Expo packages Each step gives your team a little more speed, stability, and peace of mind without disrupting your release cycles. This is a real world story of how Mywheels made the transition from RNC CLI to Expo CLI: expo.dev/blog/from-rnc-cli-t…

Turn your sound on for this one 🤤
🏆 These are the nominees for "Most Creative Expo App": ♢ Zona - the AI song generator (try this...it feels like magic) ♢ Callie - the emotionally intelligent self-car app (so charming and useful). Nice work @DaehyeonMun 👏 ♢ @partiful - the award winning event planning app with one-of-a-kind design/brand identity (also a great twitter follow). ♢ RX Connect - a reimagination of the ebike experience. Region locked but def try it if you can. ♢ SeaPeople - a boating app with tracking and social elements. Just not what you would ever expect from a boating app. ♢ @fusewallet - the elegant, intuitive, thoughtful modern money wallet. Impeccable design by @vovacodes and the @SquadsProtocol team. Each of these apps dazzled us with different creative decisions and they are all completely distinct. If you're looking for inspiration download these to get ideas. What @wcandillon is doing for react native apps cannot be overstated.
I saw a lot of people assuming that the jelly slider only lives on the web, but thanks to react-native-wgpu by @wcandillon it can also live inside your React Native app. The shader code stayed the same since it’s all TypeScript, and the TypeGPU plugin works with both Vite and Babel. The only change was event handling, made easy by react-native-gesture-handler.

🙌 The Expo App Awards received over 1,200 submissions...and closer to 1,100 when we filtered for functioning store links. 👀 Take a look at this breakdown of the apps by category. Interesting to see what trends people are gravitating to. Wonder what it'll look like next year...

🙌 The 𝝠 Expo App Award review process has officially begun. First impression: Narrowing down these 1,200+ 𝝠 Expo apps to a small list of finalists is going to be excruciating. A lot of beautifully crafted apps are not going to make the cut. We will find other ways to show our appreciation to all these app creators...we will offer opportunities to promote your work with social highlights and blog posts. Stay tuned...
