You have to understand that Bob is not a mentally ill man, he's a spirit of divine judgment No genuinely mentally ill person could or would behave like Bob, as Dr Marvin would recognize if he were not an atheist & witch doctor & fraud He is entertaining angels unawares

Of course Bob breaks all the rules as he ostentatiously heals the wounds of Marvin's sins against his family - that is the point Marvin fails to recognize the miracle, the state of exception At any point he could submit & be healed, but he can't give up his throne in hell

It's a very spooky movie if you're a vessel of wrath!

I try to only watch spooky-adjacent, at least, movies during October but I love What About Bob.

One of our family favorites, but I don’t think it’s that deep 😂

Inspired by this. Haven’t watched since I was a kid. Watching with Natalie now. She’s never seen it.

So when my son Bob was in high school he ran for student body president. And his campaign slogan was “what about Bob?” And he wore a goldfish around his neck for like two weeks. 😆

Very polarizing film. Type A’s who see it invariably relate to Dr Marvin and find it horrifying. In fact if you’re looking to hire a quant you should probably try to find one who hates this movie.

The backstory of those two actors hating each other, and that hate fueling the on-screen feud makes it more enjoyable. (I like both of their work, btw. But also understand personality conflicts...so, grab art by the throat and tallyho)

I've always kind of felt this about the Yuppie Fear Thriller genre as whole, that those movies, ostensibly about "stalkers", were basically, "Oh no! What if someone who felt love showed up and messed with our ability to make money!?"

Rewatched this recently since seeing it as a kid thinking it was a comedy to now seeing it as a horror movie. I'm assuming the writer was a doomer gen-xer who hates his dad by the dialogue of the son in the movie.

I loved this movie when I was young. After becoming a professional, it began to horrify me and I realized I did not understand the actions of anyone in that movie and except Dr Marvin

My cousin's family watches this movie every year at Thanksgiving. I found out last year. It's a whole ritual for them. The kids get excited to see What About Bob. I was just like wtf

I watch it every year. "With this kind of manic episode, I would think that Librium might be a more effective management tool."

And it is really freaking clever, too. Very funny. Bill Murray is masterful in it. So is Dreyfus. Just a great movie.

Nah dude, fuck Bob. This movie was one "Hey Man Nice Shot" away from being Cable Guy. Bob is the V I L L A I N

Famously President Thomas S. Monson's favorite movie.

Yeah, no. Great movie but Bob has zero boundaries and is actually pretty self centered and manipulative. Both men are villains.

When I first watched it as a young person, I felt sorry for Richard Dreyfus. It didn’t really like the movie so much. As an adult who done a few things, I love it. Dreyfus is insufferable, and I take pleasure in his torment.

This is for people who understand that there are everyday evils that rarely get the full wringer of comeuppance. Leo had it all but thought himself above it, and couldn't stand the light. "I'm not gonna shoot you, Bob. I don't think I could shoot anyone. I am gonna blow you up."

My brother got me a "Don't Hassle Me I'm Local" shirt and the first people to ask me about it were some El Salvadorans at a food truck.
