Le rachat de la filiale de EDF, Exaion, par le mineur de bitcoins américain @MARA cache une clause explosive :
Si celui-ci se concrétise, EDF n’aura plus le droit d’exercer la moindre activité de calcul informatique intensif pendant deux ans.
Derrière ces mots techniques ("computing, cloud or HPC-related activity") se cache une interdiction qui touche bien plus que le minage de Bitcoin.
👉 Elle pourrait aussi bloquer tout projet d’intelligence artificielle ou de cloud souverain porté par EDF.
Selon nos informations, cette clause d’exclusivité signée le 11 août 2025 interdit à EDF d’agir "en tant que prestataire, agent, consultant ou autre" dans le domaine du calcul haute performance.
Résultat : le groupe public serait contraint de geler pendant 24 mois toute activité liée à l’IA, au cloud ou au minage.
Potentiellement, EDF n'aurait pas le droit de fournir de la puissance de calcul à @MistralAI.
Un coup dur, toujours selon nos informations, alors qu’EDF travaillait depuis un an sur un projet interne, baptisé FlexMine, destiné à valoriser les surplus d’électricité en alimentant des infrastructures de calcul flexibles pour l’IA et le Bitcoin.
Le projet aurait été abandonné depuis la signature avec Mara qui rapporterait seulement 20 millions de dollars dans les caisses de EDF.
Cela pourrait s'apparenter à une abdication stratégique au moment où tout le monde se bat pour sécuriser de la capacité de calcul.
L’affaire soulève des questions de souveraineté numérique, d’autant que Mara (soumis au Cloud Act américain) pourrait désormais contrôler une partie des infrastructures critiques de calcul françaises.
