As the polling stations in the Local Government elections closes, the nation once again witnesses blatant and shameful misconduct by government authorities working collectively to shamelessly steal the election in favour of CCM and its candidates, even at the expense of Tanzanian lives.
We strongly condemn the killings and injuries inflicted on our candidates, leaders, and members, including:
1. Steven Chalamila, from Tunduma Constituency, Songwe Region who was brutally attacked and hacked to death.
2. Modestus Timbisimilwa, a candidate for the Ulongoni A Street Committee in Gongolamboto Ward, Ukonga Constituency, Dar es Salaam, who was shot and killed by police while attempting to prevent the smuggle-in of fraudulent votes at a polling station.
3. George Juma Mohammed, from the Stand Hamlet, Mkwese Ward, Manyoni Constituency in Singida Region, who was attacked at his residence by known police officers and fatally shot.
Additionally, we have received numerous reports of injuries, arrests, and detentions of our leaders, candidates, and supporters across the country as they sought to intercept and prevent the introduction of fraudulent ballots intended to favor CCM candidates.
We demand the immediate and unconditional release of those detained.
Our party continues to gather information and will issue an official statement once the process is complete.
The ongoing actions bear the full endorsement and blessings of
@SuluhuSamia and her government... the nation is effectively on "autopilot," where individuals act with impunity in their respective areas, shielded by Regulation 49 of the Local Government Election Regulations. This regulation states, and I quote:
"Returning Officer, Assistant Returning Officer, Polling Station Supervisor, A
Members of Appeal Committee, or any public servant involved in the election process shall not be held criminally, civilly, or administratively liable for any act or omission or commission committed in good faith while performing their duties under these Regulations."
Indeed, our nation is in mourning yet again!
