good read
This is a pretty stupid question but I'll go ahead and engage with it in good faith because a lot of people coming after ~2023 probably think the same thing due to context loss.
Yacine, and the horde of tech-obsessive mostly-Canadian anime pfp posters who copied him (halogen being one) attempted to bruteforce a caustic and antisocial culture largely lifted from /g/ after the Gamergate era because they were not only late bloomers but late to an internet culture that most people had outgrown and become tired of by 2010.
This was more or less a decentralized attempt tangential to influencers like Beff pushing e/acc to offset both Twitter/X's ML research & software engineering community's tendency to either acceptably coat reactionary beliefs in a veneer of professionalism (or flee the platform entirely if they disagreed, or spar with them occasionally). The goal: make the "4chan NEET" an overclass on the most Important Platform in The World, ???, and then become little kings over a small slice of internet culture.
For a while, they were a favored group on X until Elon/X itself hired some of them, Yacine included, realized they both lacked the technical skills and interpersonal skills to succeed in even an org environment that is -- at best -- mentally 22 years old, and as a result of the ongoing posting volume of "degens" in the crypto-adjacent space overwhelming their signal strength have basically crawled into their troll holes until some amount of time for now where the internet culture will revolve again and they'll probably give it another shot (or not, idk).
Before, it was kind of like an invasive species where they had no natural predators on here, so they just spawned endlessly -- kids who are like 18-22 would naturally want to copy the behavior patterns that A) maximized the ability for them to say what they want and B) would give them a shot at working at X. So they slapped on anime PFPs, talked about being "Cracked and Based", and for a short while really saturated the hiring market with people who just go "um um um um u mum um um um um" when you do a single code review. I, and several other engineering managers had a few of these on 1099 from 2022 to 2024 and it was like getting my legs blown off with claymores in Vietnam over and over. Would not recommend.
Some of them pivoted intelligently to different audiences. Guys like Tetsuo got their brains taken over by shitcoins and decided to do that, other 4channers just stopped posting or sort of pivoted away from the whole anime-freak-boy thing, and hopefully some of them got on HRT which actually tends to have a 50/50 chance of turning them cool.
