A founder of @FedSoc kicked off this year's Scalia Memorial Dinner by saying he has spoken to Trump today and Trump asked us to keep sending him judges to defend his administration. This is not the job of judges or conservatives and dishonors Scalia's legacy.

I don't expect all my fellow members if @FedSoc to agree with me on anything. I appreciate the organization doesn't take positions. But when leaders say this kind of stuff from the stage at the signature annual event, it damages the organization and what it purports to be.

At a minimum, the Trump administration raises challenging questions of law that reasonable conservatives and libertarians might debate. @FedSoc should be a home for those debates, not a rooting section for those in power.

I hope @FedSoc will begin to confront these questions. Until then, I promise @chkbal will. And we're happy to invite allies and defenders of the Administration to join those debates

If a Constitutionalist movement like @FedSoc cannot find its voice to defend the Constitution, or raise questions about assaults upon it, when its political allies are in power, one must ask what its project really is

Yes, he or Lee misspoke. A group of Federalist Society people have been in various administrations, but the Society itself has not. I don'tthink there's a piercing the veil problem, but careful wording was required.

Replying to @greggnunziata
Let’s stop relying on @fedsoc. They hate Trump and his voters.

You are very nearly completely forgotten.

Do you believe that many judges throughout the U.S. have gone rogue, and are politicized (pro-Democrat)? Answer, please.
2
It is obviously the job of judges if he believes the actions of his administration are valid under our Constitution.
2
We should keep sending him good IEEPA judges.

You're right but this is where politics is nowadays. Nothing really new but Repubs have taken partisanship to the nth level. When a nonpartisan BLS report gets the messenger fired, this eats away at the faith the people have in government. War on govt and its permanent legacy puts another nail in the coffin ⚰️ of public credibility. One of Trump's toxic roles, to be sure.
If tue, if Trump did say that, and if Trump is acting constitutionally, and should be upheld as such, then there is nothing wrong with saying that. However, he probably should have worded it differently. "Trump asked me to keep sending him judges to defend the constitution," perhaps.
All 6 Christofacist SCOTUS justices are affiliated with the FS. "Republican presidents have frequently relied on the Federalist Society when selecting judicial nominees." FS judges and members have a judicial philosophical in line with the expanding authority of the President.

Scalia would be beside himself over Trump.

Also seems inappropriate for two Supreme Court justices to speak at this event if the organization believes its mission is to send Trump judges to defend his administration.

Among many other things, we've got federal judges ordering Trump to spend money that hasn't even been appropriated and THIS is what you get twisted up about?

Art III Judges are the umpires that ensure the executive and legislative branches play by the rules.

personally, I would prefer a judiciary as close to apolitical as possible. but this is what happens when people stop believing that's what we have. prisoners dilemma. pack courts w your side when u can. we all suffer from the partisan effect & loss of trust in judiciary
2
"This is not the job of judges or conservatives and dishonors Scalia's legacy" haha, good one.

I want judges that will overturn J&L Steel vs NLRB and Helvering vs Davis... regardless of what Trump thinks about it.
Alito and Thomas are down with that.

Thank you Mr. Nunziata for this forthright statement. FedSoc has been a disappointment.

Fed Soc = Opus Dei

This is a very unserious understanding of Scalia if you think he was principled and non partisan.

Agree, but don't think Scalia left a position legacy. Believer of imperial presidency and wealthy to buy elections. Like John Adams on masses without property shouldn't be allowed to vote.
8
You’re right that it’s not the job of judges to do that but it’s perfectly in keeping with scalia’s legacy

Are you just figuring out today that The Federalist Society is a MAGA stronghold? Lol

Are we specifically talking about Leonard Leo?

They’ve lost the plot of the democracy we’ve been for centuries.

That’s the solicitor generals job. Not how a judge is supposed to work
It's hard to dishonor Scalia's legacy.
