better get after it
People keep driving like 4-5 *HOURS* to come to our meetups. So: if I hosted a happy hour next week in DetSys HQ, would you come have some food and drink on me?

tfw the upstream project drops competitive advantage in your lap by turning off their free @coderabbitai reviews
What's the best alternative to @Netlify and @vercel that are basically Netlify drop-in replacements with IPv6 and good support?

To clarify, since we got this question a few times: this appears to impact all distributions of Nix that incorporated the upstream version of our patch. We're digging into the details still.
2
me: can you see why you're rejecting all network traffic from <ip range>? @Netlify: what HTTP headers did you get back? shibboleet! shibboleet!

A particularly persnickety dev board hangs by its torn wires off the rack in the @DeterminateSys hardware lab, dangling in front of the other targets as a reminder of what may come.
once a quarter everyone should vote on their least favorite node and it should be removed from service and destroyed publicly, and violently.

Our best estimation is this impacts exactly one project, but our monitoring identified the regression and we're looking into the root of the crash.

fwiw the @DeterminateSys team is tracking down an extremely rare crash in `nix flake check` that originates from when our performance improvements were ported upstream. We've rolled back GitHub Actions users to v3.11.3 while we investigate. ref: determinate.systems/blog/cha…

It is absolutely not okay. It is horrible. It is irresponsible to use tools this bad. I will not violate the original tweet's request.
In today’s “Linux is a horrible dev platform” example we have a Docker file that has to meticulously downgrade and upgrade packages in-between steps so assorted components can build and be duct taped together. Why does anyone think this is ok and not horrible? Nix Reply = Block

There would be literally no issue at all if Fil Pizlo weren’t marching around saying utter horseshit like “Fil-C is more memory-safe than Rust” when he knows perfect well that’s a category error due to the difference between compile-time and runtime guarantees and the different failure modes of the languages even at runtime.

Vercel: no IPv6 Netlify: no, uh, this exact /17 for some reason

Do I have any buddies at Netlify who could trouble-shoot why I can't access my site from a seemingly arbitrary network block?

I imagine you're doing something like: event.code === 'KeyK' which is wrong, vs. something like: e.key.toLowerCase() === 'k' which is sensitive to keyboard layout
2
Hey @NotionHQ, on Dvorak / macOS, Cmd-Shift-T opens the global Command Search shortcut instead of Cmd-Shift-K. That's because Notion is listening for a keycode presumably, instead of the correct T? To make it trigger on Cmd-Shift-K, I have to change it in Settings to Cmd-Shift-V. This is the most annoying part of setting up a new Mac.

The free market fixes this lol
hot take: maybe instead of reporting vuln and getting cves, security nerds should just sell exploits that way devs won't need to bother with too much reports, only critical one that got exploited would need to be fixed. neat!

The freedoms of open source means ffmpeg could just not give a shit and not patch. It also means someone who does could fork and make the ffmpeg alternative everyone depends on. These are fine!
