Perpetuates the myth that California's "Independent Redistricting Commission" was "Independent."
After the closest POTUS election in history - 2000 -- the delegation was 32-20 Democrat. Close to the vote totals of Gore v. Bush (53-42).
After the 2000 Census and redistricting, it was 33-20 Dems (Calif picked up 1 seat).
In 2010, voters created the Commission. Under the last map prior to the Commission taking over, the delegation was 34-19.
For a decade -- from 2000 to 2012, the delegation was roughly unchanged: from 33-20 to 34-19.
After redistricting by the Commission and the 2012 election, the delegation became 38-15 -- a lot of "independence" since the composition of the Commission -- an odd number -- had one more Dem. appointee than GOP appointee.
After that:
39-14
39-14
43-10
42-11
40-12
43-9
Quite a lot of "Independence" in their work.
In the same time span, the Democrats have obtained Super Majorities in both Houses of the Calif Legislator -- whose districts are also drawn by the "Independent" Commission.
Gavin Newsom is full of sheet.
Newsom: "I support independent redistricting, but you can't do it state by state with one arm tied behind your back. You can't unilaterally disarm as other people are not playing by the rules. Donald Trump and Republican governors across the country -- they're not screwing around. I think Trump did not expect what California's did. He thought we were just would try to win an argument by writing an op ed."
