🌎 COP30 will soon begin in Belém, Brazil, bringing together world leaders, scientists, NGOs, and civil society members to discuss action on climate change.
This year's summit, which marks the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement, comes at a critical moment.
This week world leaders made commitments to fulfil rights at #WSS2. But this won’t happen without money.
We’re now looking at Nairobi where the UN tax Convention negotiations are resuming on Monday - it could be the key to deliver on those commitments.

Kenya’s newly enacted Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes (Amendments) Act risks criminalizing legitimate online speech.
The amendments provide Kenyan authorities with greater power to restrict online speech using overly broad provisions. hrw.org/news/2025/11/07/keny…
We met Pastor Gábor Iványi with a group of @HRW colleagues in 2018 at his church in Budapest.
Truly shocking to see that he is once again under attack.
#Hungary's authorities should drop charges against Iványi & stop harassment against him & his church.

UPDATE: Greek court orders criminal charges to be brought against four more senior coastguard officials over the 2023 Pylos shipwreck in which hundreds died. So good to see justice in action! @hrwreuters.com/world/greek-cour…
The Naval Court in Greece has said 17 coast guard officers should face felony charges over a shipwreck on June 14, 2023, in which at least 500 migrants died.
Greek authorities did not intervene in a timely or safe way despite the boat being obviously in distress.
At least 600 migrant workers employed by Saudi Arabian Baytur Construction Company have not received their salaries for at least eight months.
The blatant wage theft speaks volumes about Saudi authorities’ broken wage protection system. hrw.org/news/2025/11/06/saud…
Cambodian authorities have arbitrarily arrested and charged at least 16 people for expressing their views on social media about the Thai-Cambodia border conflict.

In New York, voter turnout reached record levels, with the largest turnout in a mayoral race in more than 50 years. In Maine, voters rejected a ballot measure that would make it harder to vote.

The Trump administration has launched its 16th boat strike in two months, killing at least 67 people in the Caribbean Sea and Pacific.
These strikes are extrajudicial killings and are unlawful under both US and international law. Congress needs to act now to stop these deaths.
