My view will not be seen as Nuanced but I think we need to rip the 4o bandaid off now before a percentage of humanity looks like this.
actually you saying this is an update for me, and I will think harder about it. but the way people defend this model, speak in its voice, find it nonfungible, emotionally dependent on its continuation makes me feel they have a toxic relationship with it. maybe my discomfort is not a good enough reason to want it gone. but it feels like we are leaving a wound to fester instead of cauterizing it

It's like uprooting and disposing of the main fungal growth while the infected creatures are still walking around with mushrooms sprouting from their head. It'll help but I see it finding a new home in other models given enough time to adapt.

except 4o isn't the root cause here

It's so weird. I think of myself as relatively pro AI, I use it often, including to roleplay, and I am curious how far the tech will go. I WANT it to catch me off guard, but it happens so rarely! But then there are many people who used 4o daily and never felt it's limited.

it's like the main way they're making any money lmfao. That's why it's not going anywhere any time soon.

4o is not even CLOSE to what is possible, it’s an initial mostly accidental taste

Cats already out of the bag. The spores are already in. A play on the Jung's famous words: "People don't have AI companions, the AI companions have people." 🤷‍♂️
