On his 24th birthday, June 9, 1944, he was in Normandy, France. His unit would go on through France, Holland and Belgium.

On Nov. 6, 1941, while on Neutrality Patrol in the South Atlantic, USS Omaha and USS Somers intercepted the German blockade runner Odenwald. She was disguised as the U.S. merchantman SS Willmoto, and the crew unsuccessfully tried to scuttle the ship.

We are saddened to hear of the passing of WWII Veteran Arthur Kemp of Bellefontaine, OH on August 8, 2025 at the age of 101. He flew 35 bombing missions in Europe as a Tail Gunner in B-17 bombers in the Army Air Forces.
