On @theallinpod, @chamath spoke about Peter Thiel predicting socialism and student loan forgiveness: "This is the first time in years where I've now become sympathetic to student loan forgiveness. "We have Palantir today saying they're not going to hire from college anymore."

Actually, not hiring from college is genius. Students who can’t find a job won’t attend university and therefore won’t incur debts. The whole system collapses.

Whatever type of student loan forgiveness is figured out some portion of it has got to come from the universities and colleges themselves who are sitting on billions and billions of dollars of endowments that they’ve collected from the federal government. I also think some portion of it has to come from I think some of the banks themselves who’ve been collecting ridiculously high interest rates on these loans for which they can receive no bankruptcy and light of the fact that these people have to pay these loans. I don’t understand why the interest rates were as high as they were.

Colleges business model incentivizes them to sell seats to any market, regardless of inflows. Has been deceptive for a long time, and AI has expedited the nail coming to the coffin.
The interest rate on those loans is predatory. Way too high, credit card rate high. Should be prime +0. That I could get behind big time. Those that have been paying for years haven't made a dent in principal. That needs to change.

What’s happening in NYC, in Brooklyn, is not about student debt. It’s about a lack of education and indoctrination by our schools. These - mostly women - have suicidal empathy. They feel white guilt. Go to Brooklyn and talk to the people. @chamath

It’s so freaking annoying to hear to duck heads talking like this… my nose tells me they are sensing the end of a devastating decade at so many levels, we are in recession and people are suffering and these people now want to be “cool” again. Such hypocrisy.
Hey @chamath if you want to better understand the land problem your boy @peterthiel also knows the cause and remedy for that👇
“I model whats happened in the US, Britan, Canada—a lot of the Anglosphere countries—as a Georgist real estate catastrophe.” It’s nice to see Peter Thiel is George-pilled.

Middle aged folks waiting for boomer parents to die and leave them the house (which has appreciated 100%+ in the last 5-10 years). For now, there’s at least the hope of that gain.
Theze guyz are all wooziez I dare them to fight me in the ring
I don’t want my taxes paying for peoples student loans who decided to take out a six figure loan to study about social studies in Uganda, or an art history degree, or a “Degree in Self Expression.”

I appreciate your comments a great deal. I do believe government has played a role but I do not believe Government (tax payers) need to fix it. Parents and the education system or more simply listening to you should address education decisions

It’s a system heading towards authoritarian control because they don’t want a system that works for all anymore.
2
Hypocrites they were making fun of Mamdani Now their daddy is talking about writing off student loans (making education free, which means socialism)
2
They’ve done an excellent job getting people to believe being educated is worthless. Look at who voted for this clown show…
My kid earned a 1500 SAT (without studying) and loves to work (worked 25hrs/week while in high school.) But he thinks American colleges are a scam. We keep pushing college but he's hesitant to "waste" so much money. Maybe he's wiser than us.

Create a problem, sell the solution. Stop falling for these ppl’s bs. They just want more power.

The most ironic part of this is the institution that indoctrinates our young people are the ones they are fleecing them by overcharging them for useless degrees, and inhibiting, or preventing their ability to acquire Capital. They're creating the inequity that they rail about.

Is he saying that hard working Americans like myself who have been responsible taking out loans and paying off our debts are responsible for subsidizing the loan forgiveness of an idiot that borrowed $800k for an art history degree???

If you are saying that an entire generation will negatively impact politics and we must “pay them off” to change their views, you will only embolden them that government answers their problems I appreciate the opportunity to respond I think best to teach next gen.

The most obvious trend ever… are we only supposed to take it seriously because Thorpe said something… world has been trending this m way since 2010-2012.
mind your business fuck face . U were in my uber and every time I see your face I curse and your family . go to china u bitch guy got in my uber and didn't like that I saw through his shit. at the end of the ride he tells me driverless cars are coming and he can't wait. wrong!
I'm struggling to understand if this is actually empathy or a fear of losing power to the opposition
American colleges are too overpriced due to bureaucracy none of the elite schools in China or Europe are anywhere near as costly. And the student loan racket is plain usury preying on young HS grads who don’t know any better. It’s insanity you can incur a lifetime of death at 18 but can’t buy beer from the local shop. There is no justification for this

The college degree framework in its current form is obsolete for most students. Students should be able to take whatever courses fit their plans and be on the lookout for a job from day 1. If they are selected for a job that meets their interests they should quit college and take up the job. The company can then take care of training/education of such individuals it sees fit. Companies may also outsource their employee training needs to universities.
