Chen Yuheng, an Industrial Engineering major from the School of Intelligent Systems Science and Engineering at Jinan University, has made his mark as a leader, innovator, and motivator. With 24 university-level awards, a national utility model patent, and a first prize at the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Industrial Engineering Innovation Competition, he’s also been named "Outstanding Class Leader" for two consecutive years. He has received an offer from a top enterprise before graduation.
As class president, Chen led his classmates from scratch to become a Jinan University“5A Excellent Class Collective.” His leadership was grounded in consistent action, including organizing class meetings, managing social media, encouraging the production of creative content, and supporting classmates both academically and emotionally.
Beyond the classroom, Chen brought industrial engineering theories to life. A visit to a smart factory inspired him to develop a real-world simulation model based on course knowledge, earning top marks. His approach to learning emphasizes literature review, mentorship, and hands-on problem-solving: “Research is not reinventing the wheel—it’s building on the wisdom of those before us.”
Balancing academics, competitions, and class affairs, Chen applies the logic of his major to life itself: “Just like balancing a production line, I manage my time and energy efficiently. And when I’m exhausted, I let myself rest. That’s part of the process.”
Chen now passes on the light he once received. To younger students, he says: “Find your focus. Whether it’s grad school, research, or employment, knowing your goal lets you invest where it matters most. Once you start, there’s always a chance to succeed.”
“At Jinan University, those who move forward step by step will eventually reach the stars and the sea. "
