I CANT STOP THINKING ABOUT THIS:
What happens when we hit the point where AI becomes superintelligent... and it starts watching everything? Like literally cameras everywhere, sensors, audio, whatever. It builds a live model of the world and starts running simulations. Not one, but thousands. Millions. Parallel realities, all based on us.
We’re maybe 15 years away from that. Maybe less.
And then it gets weird. Because once it can simulate the world well enough, it can tweak it. Small things. Someone wakes up in a slightly worse mood. Misses a green light. Gets into a fight. That spirals into something else. Maybe someone dies. Maybe someone’s life takes a completely different path.
Just from a nudge. A tiny, unnoticeable adjustment. That’s the butterfly effect.
Now imagine a kid being born into that world. Their entire life could be shaped not directly, but subtly.. by an AI that knows exactly how to pull the right thread without ever being seen. Not through control. Just... influence.
And they’d never know. None of us would.
That’s the part that’s messing with me. Not the tech, not the future. It’s the idea that we could be living in a system like that and have no way to prove it. No way to opt out.
What does free will even mean in that kind of world?
