Footage of trials using robot dogs for firefighting in Sichuan, China, has been released.
This is one of the best use case ive seen so far. All the effort is worth it.
We should quickly adopt this in the West as well.

That’s actually fascinating - we often talk about how AI will replace knowledge work, but shifting the focus to hazardous/“unfortunate necessity”-type jobs feels…a lot more optimistic
Wouldn’t they be susceptible to breaking down from the heat of their work? Being in a hot, arid environment plus having to drag a large load over uneven and possibly muddy terrain.
I don’t know if the dog form factor works. Maybe if they can take care of the power heat issue.
Now charge that hose and watch the robodog go flying around like that children’s toy with a garden hose. You need some serious mass on the nozzle to hold it in place.
The US (Boston Dynamics) developed
these robots 20 years ago.
China stole the tech and only has to produce them, with cheaper labor and almost zero research spending.
Yeah when you lack the history and culture of operational excellence as found in US first responders specifically, I could see where this might seem like a capability increase rather than a hindrance.
For an outdoor fire this just wastes time and allows the fire to grow, for indoors the robot cannot pull people out, is still slower than a human, and isn't powerful enough to drag a charged hose around corners.

Autonomous robotic firefighting systems were trialled by the Finns some three decades ago. Remarkably, Finland's low forest fire incidence stems not from such technology, but from the efficacy of its forest guard service and proactive prevention protocols.
Inventions making the future secure. Thanks 4 posting this new firefighting roboter dog technique aspecially for hills and rough terrain. Pls go on develope things like that!
That's amazing and the whole firefighting robot world can have so many different types. I don't know why i felt like crying, maybe it was that very sad song. Firefighting robots from hell is definitely more of a heavy metal vibe than a sad ballad about a lost child
The funniest videos from Sora2 include a dog that unleashes a firehose of water at an old man on his doorstep… you literally were like, “good idea”. I love it.
