SCOOP: Jeff Bezos funded a secretive EV startup called Slate Auto based in Michigan, and I've got all the details. It's working on a low-cost EV pickup truck and has attracted investment from the owner of the LA Dodgers. techcrunch.com/2025/04/08/in…

I saw Shera a few weeks ago. She was recovering from a bad fall and couldn't figure out why it was taking so long to heal. She discovered it was cancer & it required immediate surgery. Of all the people I've encountered over the years, Shera has one of the best outlooks on life.

She did a ton to bring attention to the Oregon Desert Trail, was a brand ambassador, became a consultant to other long-distance trail organizations. And more recently, she was working on a new project - outdoors the focus once again.
When we met she was working as a graphics designer, but what I most admire about Shera was how she turned her passion for hiking and the outdoors into a career.
That's where our friendship started. Over the years, we stayed in touch as she took on all the great national trails (mostly hiking solo). The AZ Trail, CDT, Colorado Trail, etc etc. (She did the AT in 2002)
I met Shera in 2008 along the Pacific Crest Trail in Oregon. I was thru-hiking & it was one of those cold, wet days that causes one to reconsider their choices. Shera, a former PCTer herself, had a little tarp set up along the trail with some "trail magic" (aka treats & drinks).

A non-car tech thread. This is personal. For anyone who wants to do some good, consider contributing to Renee "Shera" Patrick, a thru-hiker & environmentalist who has done an incredible amt of work to get people outdoors. Plus, she is cool AF. gofund.me/602a7954

We've started to hear from some Cruisers about GM's decision to kill the robotaxi program. Hit me up if you have something to share. kirsten.korosec@techcrunch.com.
GM's decision to end its robotaxi efforts came not with a bang, but with a Slack message. Several Cruise employees said they were “surprised” and “blindsided” by the decision, learning about the news at the same time the media did. And that's just the start. @kirstenkorosec and @RebeccaBellan have the behind-the-scenes rundown on what happened today. techcrunch.com/2024/12/10/cr…

🍿 yikes!
In case it was unclear before, it is clear now: GM are a bunch of dummies.
