Before 1827, NYC enslaved thousands.
Brooklyn? Those were slave-labor plantations.
Wall Street? Not a slave auction block, but the financial center that funded, insured, and profited from slavery.
And the wealth that built America including what helped finance monuments like the Statue of Liberty’s pedestal came from an economy powered by enslaved Africans.
We didn’t just witness history.
We were the foundation of it.
