since ppl are misinterpreting this, I would like to add that femininity, the female body and its reproductive functions, are often portrayed as terrifying and monstrous in horror (think alien). It challenges the idea of women as solely victims, showing them as monsters and 1/2
and mind you, it's always a woman having empathy for the monster and showing it love because we know and recognize marginalisation on a deep level

exploring societal fears surrounding a woman's power and autonomy. And that includes their sexuality and role as mothers/lovers.

People arguing over this tweet or misunderstanding it are clearly removing the historical context of the time Mary Shelley wrote this in, when women did in fact experience marginalisation across the board, even if they were wealthy and privileged.

I'm not sure Alien is the 'best' example of female anatomy being horror. I feel like most of the horror of Alien is the rape allegory, like the facehugger shoving a phallic object down your throat by force. Though being 'impregnated' is absolutely the intended horror trope too.

It can be both. But if I had to give better examples I'd say Titane or Carrie.

The last Silent Hill game was a perfect exemple of this (and the Silent Hill series itself if I remember well)

there's more to alien than that i think it's reductive to imply that that was the main message or intent behind it
where did I say it is just that? Learn english

Perceiving female bodily functions as monstrous not same as them being monstrous me thinks.

the monstrous feminine is the idea that idea that female independence and rage, when divorced from patriarchal expectations, can be seen as monstrous and terrifying by men and make them scared and anxious.
