This unpenalized hit on DeVonta Smith that caused a traumatic brain injury needs to be discussed tomorrow. If it's open season on the heads of defenseless players, it's going to be a long year.

There are 2 different concepts with forward progress: A) Where: furthest point forward when the play stops. This is where the down marker will be. B) When: the play stops. If the refs make the determination that no more forward progress will be made, they blow the whistle.

The refs did not blow the whistle. If you rewatch the play, you see that if Khristian had not made the tackle, and if Lattimore had fallen down, then DeVonta could have scored in the left corner. The defense needed to end the play.
