Ogun, Niger partnership on food security; wild imagination of proponent
Our attention has been drawn to a viral post on some social media platforms alleging a purported partnership with Niger State and Ogun State Governments on food security. While we are not averse to partnership with any federating units for mutual benefits, we make bold to say that such discussion did not at any point occur.
We were, therefore, taken aback by the said post on social media, possibly by one of the media aides of Niger State's Governor who must have been too overzealous to have impatiently misconstrued an unofficial discussion on exchange of innovative ideas based on comparative cost advantages between the two states as proposal for partnership.
It is a global practice that partnership of any form and pattern is always an official engagement, well documented and clearly articulated, and not through a brief chat that took place between the two governors.
To set the record straight, Ogun State is one of the leading states in Nigeria with greatest potentials for agricultural development and food security, with an expanse arable land of over 16,000 square kilometers, the largest in the South West geo-political zone.
It is a common knowledge that Ogun State is leading several states in the federation in the area of agricultural development and food security, being the highest producer of cassava in Nigeria as well as poultry products.
As a matter of fact, agriculture remains one of the integral policies of Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration, as part of his six pillars of action that constitute the ISEYA mantra, in which many states have visited the Gateway State for policy direction on agriculture.
It is on that note that we passionately implore the governor's media handler who posted the false information to learn to be more detailed and well informed on issues next time before rushing to social media platforms, as to avoid such embarrassing content.
