In January 1986, BBC1's Jackanory, for years stuffy and staid, briefly felt like the coolest thing ever when Rik Mayall performed (it's much more than a reading) Roald Dahl's GEORGE'S MARVELLOUS MEDICINE! For me and my mates, this was Event Television, quoted for weeks on end.

Hiking the bus fare cap to Β£3 a journey is terribly short-sighted. All of the hard work encouraging people back onto buses will be undone, and as a result thousands of bus routes will be put at risk. Providers should ignore govt and keep their single bus fares capped at Β£2.
