So far what SNAP recipients are saying: - “I’m having to use my own cash now to buy food.” - “I couldn’t go out this weekend because I had to pay for food.” - “I have to be aware of the cost of items before putting them in the cart.” - “I’m buying store brands and cutting coupons.” Millions of people discovered adulting overnight.

SNAP benefits should only be approved for single item ingredients or Whole Foods: Eggs Beef Chicken Turkey Pork Milk Cheese Bread Vegetables Herbs Pasta Beans Rice Juice Cereal Oatmeal Grits The nutritional assistance program is to feed the recipients not entertain them and certainly not increase their risk for diabetes, heart disease or obesity.

Some disabled people need the option of frozen pre made meals. My kid would've starved without chicken nuggets, French fries, and a few other frozen food items. If I'm too sick to cook, I simply don't eat. That's not an option for kids.

Or better yet go back to the government passing out actual food.

I'm fine with this as long as the benefits go up because if you want people going from ramen and mac'n'cheese and other cheap food junk to this list it's going to cost a lot more.
16
Another entitled jacka$$ who doesn’t get it. Puritans who think if you’re already struggling, you should cook all food from scratch whether you work several jobs, are disabled or are a child. I hope you all get to experience poverty that you never recover from. Truly vile ppl.

That's wonderful, if tge recipient is not able to USE those single ingredient items to cook. Many reasons they cant. Homelessness. Time (they "grind"). Disability (unable to do the work required to stand to do all that). Do not have a stove or oven.

Yeah man, because forcing people to cook 30 dollar meals instead of allowing them to eat 2 dollar frozen food is really the "Gotcha" you think it is.

Good. No alcohol for you. No sugar drinks. No processed foods If you're fine with the govt dictating what others eat, you should be fine with them dictating what you eat also

Cereal isn't single ingredient or a "whole food" (whatever that means), neither is any dairy product, bread, juice. Even rice is fortified with a lot of extra fillers to cover different vitamins and minerals, but adds some low levels of arsenic as a by-product.

OK, you need to have that same energy for Bezos, Musk, Suck & the other Billionaire welfare queens. They get ridiculous subsidies & pay no taxes. They have to buy food from your list & forego those 3 Michelin Star restaurants

Very liberal take. I don't think it should exist at all

So now those items that I buy with my money go up in price making me have work harder for them? No thanks. They can have the ramen and frozen dinners. I’ll take the eggs, beef n chicken.

You're right!! It should be handled like WIC, where items that can be purchased are spelled out. No more free rein to buy whatever--& STIFF penalties for BOTH sellers AND buyers of EBT cards!!

I’ve been eating the above list for years. Cheese is still a splurge today, born in the sixties. Learn to cook, it’s much better.
6
Subtract juice and cereal from that list at the minimum

You guys are so concerned about their health so you don’t want them to buy cookies but you want them to buy eggs and cheese? Make it make sense

And not the expensive artisan stuff.

There are some people who depend on easy foods because they are unable to cook a full meal.

I can't afford most of that on what I get each month. I eat a lot of sandwiches

The privilege in this tweet demonstrates that you’ve never understood the struggle.

What Compassionate (and Sane) EBT Would Look Like From a real economist. It's simpler than you imagined. Economists like me are largely to blame for the calamity that is government food welfare. We proved beyond all doubt that a welfare program can deliver more and better food, at lower cost, by simply giving poor people money, so they can buy food in the private market. The government took our stupid advice and replaced soup kitchens with SNAP and WIC and EBT. Like most economists' advice, ours was correct, in the sense that it followed logically from our assumptions. And like most economists' advice, it was a disaster in practice. Economists (I am one) showed you how to deliver high-quality food to poor people at low cost, which solved the exact wrong problem. The three goals of food welfare should be, in order of urgency: 1. Prevent starvation. 2. Get people off food welfare. 3. Minimize costs. You don't achieve Goal 2, getting people off food welfare, by giving them great food. I trust I don't need to explain why, though leftists will (as always) pretend they don't understand. The very premise of SNAP and WIC and EBT is disastrous. Food welfare should not deliver good food at low cost; it should deliver terrible food at low cost. Amazingly, free government cheese is a BETTER food welfare program than SNAP, EBT, or WIC, because people eventually get tired of eating cheese, especially that orange powdered stuff. Here is the only government food welfare we need: Unlimited free Power Bars. Power Bars taste terrible, but they are nutritious. That's our model for food welfare. If you want to improve it, find a way to make Power Bars taste worse, and maybe dry them up a little, so they crumble in our mouth like an aspirin tablet and have to be taken with water. Why unlimited? Why not restrict the free Power Bars to the poor? Because we shouldn't force people to prove they are poor. Proving we are poor wastes time, requires us to pay useless bureaucrats, and encourages us to actually BE poor. So let's just hand Power Bars out for free. Nobody will starve; everyone will be motivated to get off food welfare; and we won't have to watch obese women buy Frito Lay jumbo assortment packs with our money. "No no," leftists will sputter. "We can just prohibit using vouchers to buy junk food." That's just them being willfully dense. As a bonus, unlimited free Power Bars will shut down the secondary market that converts food vouchers into cash, so we can stop paying for obese mothers to buy cigs and malt liquor. When leftists complain that Power Bars are cruel and strip the poor of their immense dignity, just say this: "Why do you want pregnant welfare moms to drink alcohol and smoke?" Leftists will pretend they don't understand, but just ignore them and keep repeating it: "Why do you want pregnant welfare moms to drink alcohol and smoke?" Give them Power Bars instead.
&if working folk had that list their wages would have to go up as minimum pay isnt enough to live on.

Half the disabled people out there would miraculously heal if they ate like this.

you forgot Hennessey

Hi gives a shit what snap covers? As long a dits good and getting children fed! Not everyone has time to cook whole meals even with snap, you can still work a TON and not make enough money and be eligible for snap, EBT should be for everything but alcohol and candy.

Keep that energy when the prices of all that stuff skyrockets.

juice is sugar

All of these items are currently available on SNAP.

Once we were so broke we lived in a motel for nearly a year. I only had a microwave & mini fridge. "Convenience foods" saved us until we made it through. Not everyone has the means to cook. Plus some ppl on SNAP r too inept/dumb to cook - at least their kids can eat tv dinners

You mention God in your profile. Is this what your religion teaches you. To be snuff and judgemental?

We should not be giving money to people who have proven they can't budget Money should be given to the towns to disburse via food banks

Another pro-pedo concerned about what's in someones grocery cart, but not the pedophile in the white house. Bravo! 🤮

WIC has controls like this in place.
Bread and pasta are really easy to make, shouldn't be covered. Most juice is just sugar water. Gonna need oil, though.
