Thoughts on Kimi K2 Thinking Congrats to the Moonshot AI team on the awesome open release. For close followers of Chinese AI models, this isn't shocking, but more inflection points are coming. Pressure is building on US labs with more expensive models. interconnects.ai/p/kimi-k2-t…

Moonshot AI’s Kimi K2 just showed that innovation doesn’t need to come with a billion-dollar price tag. While Western labs burn cash, China’s models are burning rubber. The AI race is starting to look less like a marathon and more like bumper cars in overdrive.

great read. i guess what matters more shows up in A/Bs: did the task get done, num of tokens, safety hiccups, did users come back. these metrics drive margin and market share. search/QA learned this (long ago) with ctr, cvr, and rev per session, and thats likely where the frontiers here are headed too.

Frankly, I was genuinely surprised that Kimi K2 Thinking managed to beat GPT-5 and Claude 4.5 Sonnet to secure the top spot in the Tau2 Bench Telecom benchmark. The most shocking part is its cost—only one-sixth of Claude's—which is a classic example of getting a huge return for a low cost. The major US AI companies ought to be feeling the pressure now.

US needs to open source more or lose the model culture war.

Absolutely agree. Kimi K2’s success highlights the urgent need for US labs to rethink their strategies or risk being left behind.
