Many institutions like @librarycongress @BFI are specifically preserving FFmpeg's source code so that multimedia can be viewed by generations to come. So in theory C will be relevant for millennia.

A good thing, because the people who have taken control of the project are no removing significant parts of the source code. Goodby real-time preview, good-bye experimental codecs.
