The Drone War Economy has led to mechanised absurdities that would embarrass even the 40k Universe.

These are battleships in the 20th century. The tank is now a dead weapon and we are going to move on to something newer and even more terrifying

This feels like WW1 where everyone is coming to grips with the new technological paradigms and the innovations are still crude

They’re not absurd, they’re a logical development and very resistant to drone attacks.
The latest Russian “hedgehog” tanks are shown here covered with unraveled heavy metal cable attached to a steel mesh. This thick and heavy system is not impregnable of course but it does significantly increase the number of Ukrainian FPVs required to destroy the tank.

Dude, you should check out the mechanized absurdities of WW2. Every paradigm shift brings with it a heap of idiotic and daring experiments . like adaptive radiation creates many dead ends, so does innovation.

assuming the urchin strategy is effective, i look forward to seeing what a fresh off the factory production model vehicle operating off of this design philosophy would look like.

Great news for Astra Militarum players! Just drop a couple of replacement toilet brush heads on the table, and call it a Leman Russ squadron!

It's a bootleg temporary stopgap until directed energy technologies breakthrough. Drone war has evolved a niche that lasers can fill as anti-drone weaponry, where a missile or full UAV are too difficult a target for lasers, weaponizing them against drones is easier.

A major factor in the idiotic continuation of the conflict in Ukraine is simply both sides wanting to advance their drone/antidrone tech.

To be fair they don't have to deal with modern drones in 40k
