Wise advice. For those who don't feel like they are "pet people", give it another try. I am allergic to cats and had a fear/aversion to dogs because of an experience as a child, but, being a dog owner now has been amazing. It took me time to get there, and that's ok.
One of my top recommendations to people struggling with suicidal ideation is to get a calm dog or cat. Having a sweet little friend who needs you can literally mean the difference between life and death, and provide comfort and solace on rough days.
Also, while it may seem silly to some, deescalating with your pet before you confront or go-no-contact with a loved one can help you make better decisions from a place of intent and logic as opposed to being reactionary.
None of this is to say that you shouldn't talk through your feelings with a family member, but (particularly if your family member is antagonistic or abusive) hanging out with your fur-friend first is free therapy.
I always thought N Carolina would be a great place to live. Scratching it off the short list for now though... All people should have the right to breathe filtered air and/or cover their face (many reasons to do so, including Sun sensitivity) should they choose to do so, period.

Too many churches put their perceived image above all else. That is their idol. Some cover up abhorrent sins, all to ensure they can fill the pews the next Sunday -- and for what? Money, power, control, pride, etc.

Narcissistic abusers use ‘intermittent reinforcement’ to bond you to them.
How?
🚩An abuser alternates between warmth and coldness, attention and neglect, creating an unpredictable environment. Inconsistent affection makes the victim more desperate for validation and more prone to tolerating abusive behavior.
🚩These tactics are not only used in romantic relationships but also by parents, friends and coworkers.

Relationships with narcissists only last for as long as you are willing to put yourself last.
As I deconstruct some things, I had this memory that I was taught at a young age that Cabbage Patch Kids were demon possessed or something. They are a bit odd and creepy, but seriously? Anyone else grow up this way or know what this was all about?
I was taught a form of this along with many things mentioned in the comments.
