Reminder that your Windows 10 computer isn't obsolete, it's just a Linux system that you haven't met yet. Give the Pop!_OS beta a try, with full-disk encryption, personalized UX, and essential drivers preinstalled.
On International E-Waste Day, @Microsoft decided to create more e-waste. Microsoft’s decision to end free security updates for Windows 10 doesn’t just affect users—it pushes up to 400 million functional PCs toward early obsolescence. We’re calling on Microsoft to extend support and give users real choice. Just switched my Dell G15 laptop from Windows 10 to Pop!_OS and the performance jump is insane. Games that I used to run at ~90FPS now hit 120. Pop!_OS feels way smoother overall, especially with NVIDIA drivers.

It's still buggy, not yet ready for full production use! Still under testing

Some bugs, but we're working through 'em! Even as a beta it's been our smoothest release yet.

Linux will make most people throw them out quicker, nothing against you personally though.

With rust based cosmic desktop how efficient is compared to gnome desktop on 8gb old devices (they are non upgradable old intel macbook air)
8GB RAM is recommended so you should be in the clear. As for efficiency, while we're still tackling optimizations, Phoronix benchmarked the beta against 22.04 LTS and it seemed to edge out the old version in every test! phoronix.com/review/popos-24…

Hey, I ran into an issue with games using COSMIC where when I try to full screen them, they'd only appear in one corner. Is there somewhere I can add a bug report?

Unsolicited non-robotic reply, Pop!_OS works great on my new Strix laptop. As is true with most distros, any problems I had with it were largely self-inflicted.

Pop OS is pretty good, i will never understand the hesitation towards moving from windows to a Linux distro

is it really a good idea to recommend a beta version to people that know nothing about linux?

Don't mention disk encryption, because people most likely still have PTSD thanks to Microsoft's BitLocker.

My wife was absolutely thrilled with her Pop install after being able to play older games that she couldn't get working on win10. But, my 16yr old insists on learning Unity engine, his sys qualified for the "upgrade" though so he's good, sort of. My 14yr old has a dual boot win11/pop; booted win11 one time -- during the installation. I signed up for the extended security updates to buy myself a few days to break from procrastination.

what if we have literally hundreds of boutique audio softwares that were specifically made for either windows or apple? some of the plugins i have are obsolete and the companies don't even exist anymore (so there's no updating, etc)

I won't be able to use the Beta version as a daily driver. But, definitely, looking forward to using 26.04 LTS next year.
