Nigeria:
Establishing a U.S. military command inside an operational base in the north—within the Jihadi terrorists’ area—is strategically out of the question. Logistical lines from the Atlantic would be a nightmare. Such a location would risk being attacked, surrounded, or overrun. You don’t place a strategic command at close tactical distance from the enemy.
If a decision is made (it has not been made yet), these objective conditions must be met:
A direct, short line of support from the coast and the U.S. Navy.
A large zone of popular support around the site, extending for dozens of miles.
The base must be unreachable by Jihadi militias.
Local recruitment and force integration should be prioritized for security.
The base must enable sustainable strikes and operations against Boko Haram and other jihadist groups in the northern and Plateau regions.
