Let’s set the record straight!
Rosé is the first-ever K-pop soloist to receive a Grammy nomination, and the first Korean solo act to earn multiple nominations in a single year! 💗
Now about Sumi Jo (조수미) .. yes, she won a Grammy back in 1993 for Best Opera Recording. But that award was for an ensemble performance (Richard Strauss – Die Frau ohne Schatten with Sir Georg Solti and the Vienna Philharmonic*). She was not individually nominated or awarded as a solo act.
That means:
•ROSÉ – first Korean soloist ever to be nominated for a Grammy.
•Sumi Jo – first Korean participant in a Grammy-winning ensemble (Classical)
•And yes, this also means BTS’s past “first Korean act” headlines were factually incorrect as they were not the first Koreans recognized by the Grammys.
Different eras, different genres but in 2025, Rosé is the one making true history. 🌟
This is incorrect
