What’s the point of this? Do you think they’re going to hire you back and give you a massive raise and promotion? Or do you think a competitor will see this and say, “wow I have to hire this guy!” Genuinely curious.
The most brutally awkward thing you'll see today: Condé Nast staffers confront head of HR Stan Duncan over layoffs outside his 34th-floor office. Four of the employees featured in this exclusive video from the confrontation were then fired for "extreme misconduct." The whole story: bit.ly/49EUgGk

The people there, or at least 4 were not laid off. But did get fired for their behavior. The participation trophy kids have left the building.

Chances are they acted like that before getting laid off and made it easy for the company to choose them

And, they clearly have ZERO comprehension on how bad it is out there. No gratitude, grace, self-awareness. Yeah, it is not going to go well.

It sucks getting laid off but acting like they completely justifies the employers actions

They know it's over. So crash out (peacefully, of course). A close friend lost his job this year at a different major media company. Had to train his offshore replacements in order to get his severance. Glad someone has the guts to confront leadership.

My point is it’s wasted energy and no ROI. It’s free negative real estate in your head. I was laid off earlier this year. I just moved on with my life

This is a problem that could have easily been solved with a Friday night pizza party in the office

They have no point. They're living life on pure emotion.

I would have fired the HR guy personally for his conduct there When your team is unhappy the right thing to do is sit down with them and hear them out Seems like a shitbag manager

I don’t disagree with you generally speaking. That being said there was literally nothing this guy could have said that would have made them happy in this specific scenario

Severance and goodwill gone. Layoff just became fired for cause, no?

In my head, I’d like to think it’s a valid way to crash out. But then reality hits me and I keep the thought in my head.

great look getting fired for cause in this economy because nobody will ask you about it?? sheesh.

This is what happens when you give children a job that’s fake and tell them they’re important and it matters! They sold ad space in a publication like it was an expert source of travel info, it’s just more slop and they can be replaced or reduced. Throwing a tantrum displays their lack of anything resembling critical thinking and marketable skills.

They're not thinking. They're just reflexively outraged. It's the culture they're born into - the tantrum that goes into adulthood, and as people are mostly decent they got their way till now. To a corp your value starts and ends on a ledger and your liability can only grow.

When kids wade into the rules of life by playing sports, and one of the "modified rules" is that the leading team has points deducted for each additional goal scored (to inspire equity), this is what you learn. Except the real world functions differently.

They’re toast they’re never going to work anywhere for like 3-4 years.

I think this might be a reflex. People may have not fully thought this through and could be responding from an emotional level.

I would rather work on the severance package and move on. Once the decision is made, it's done. What's the point even if they overturn their decision? You'll get fired legally next time around.
