As somebody who exclusively drives Toyota and Lexus vehicles, it's well known in the auto world that Canadian and American manufactured cars are garbage. If you're purchasing a Toyota or Lexus you want a Japanese manufactured car, otherwise there's a strong probability you're buying a $40k+ paper weight.
So it doesn't really matter where the jobs are. China and free trade destroyed North America's manufacturing sector, then North America further destroyed itself by degrading the quality of its own products to keep up with the Chinese rather than slapping them with tariffs when they should have and focusing on quality.
There's been a lot of talk about tariffs these last few days but this is a prime example why they're necessary in certain circumstances. Elon Musk has done a lot to resurrect auto manufacturing in the US with Tesla, but China is about to corner the EV market with cars that are half the price of Tesla's if Trump's tariffs on them are pulled back.
Nothing is black and white in our world. Everything has nuance. "Orange man bad" isn't a blanket answer to everything. Free trade emboldened the Chinese Communist regime and gave them a pathway to global domination. Millions of jobs could disappear overnight without tariffs. Don't let liberal media fool you into believing the simple narrative. It's not brother vs brother, it's freedom vs tyranny. Get on the right side.
Let us win the tug of war for auto jobs.
