We've just published the most comprehensive study of news creators to date covering 24 countries. Authored by @nicnewman @amyross87 @mitalilive @richrdfletcher, it identifies the most mentioned voices in each country 📱Click to read buff.ly/bL6y8Hj 🧵6 findings in thread
4️⃣ The BBC is the only online news provider in the UK more widely used as a source of online news than search engines and social media, which are increasingly important and popular ways for people to find and access online news
3️⃣ While widely used, the BBC has lower reach among younger people and people with more limited formal education. Like other news organisations, its news audience tends to skew towards older people and those with higher levels of education
2️⃣ The BBC is one of the most trusted news brands in the UK. The BBC is slightly more trusted by centrist and leftist Brits (67%) than by people who identify with the political right (47%). But it's still more trusted within the right than right-leaning newspapers
1️⃣ The BBC is by far the most widely used source of news in the UK both online and offline, and it is more widely used as a source of news than many public service media around Europe. It is also the most popular source of news among both Conservative and Labour voters
As the BBC faces fresh scrutiny, what does our research say about it? Here's an updated version of a piece by @rasmus_kleis @annisch @richrdfletcher and Craig T. Robertson originally published in 2020 📱 Full piece here buff.ly/iLaMzHa 🧵 4 findings in thread
