It was a big week for the Canadian and Australian production sectors. 📽️ From Canada’s federal budget announcement, which included significant investments in Canadian culture, to the Australian government introducing landmark legislation to apply local content rules to streaming platforms, it's clear that cultural sovereignty is more important than ever.
This year, the CMPA partnered with
@Screen_Producer on Canada Connect, a joint initiative aimed at fostering collaboration between the two nations’ screen sectors. Building on that momentum, this past summer, we asked the Hon.
@s_guilbeault, Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture, and the office of the Hon. Tony Burke, Australian Minister for the Arts, about the importance of culture and how their respective governments are stepping up in support of domestic content. The discussion touches on everything from supporting homegrown creators to updating legislation for the digital age.
As both Canadian and Australian independent media producers seek to thrive in a rapidly changing global media landscape, there’s definitely something we can all learn from each other. 🇨🇦🤝🇦🇺
