The City of Austin recommended revised 2026 Budget is out. This is a revision and decrease due to the failed Prop Q tax increase election. +$4 million increase in Homeless spending & -$11.5 million decrease in Emergency Medical Services and Parks and Recreation.
Austin area TX Rep Gina Hinojosa here celebrating CA with Gavin Newsom. She would like nothing more than to turn TX into CA. This tells you what you need to know about running for TX Governor. Don’t CA our TX.
I was proud to stand with Gov. @GavinNewsom in Houston today as we celebrated the passage of Prop 50! This isn’t just about protecting our democracy, this is about fighting back against Greg Abbott's legacy of corruption in any way we can.

Shoutout and big thank you to the Austin Communications Director Jessica King for her brilliant explanation & condescending response to spending $1 million on the new Austin logo. This new logo fiasco definitely struck a nerve with voters and helped defeat Prop Q. Bravo 👏👏👏
It's a comment we saw a lot after the city of Austin dropped its new logo: Why didn't they just use AI? Austin's Communications Director Jessica King addresses that, and other logo FAQs, on today's episode of Inside Austin's Agenda:

Austin CM Ryan Alter repaying questionable expenses and calling for reducing CM’s budget after getting called out again. Whether he is just trying to save face here or is genuine, it’s a start to clean up city employee’s taking advantage of expense accounts and lack of oversight.
Every dollar counts. That's why I’m shining a light on past expenses and calling for serious reforms to City spending including cuts to Council office budgets, freezing my travel, and independent audits to improve efficiency. tinyurl.com/3r6yywvh

🤔Does this set a precedent and what about elected officials and lawmakers themselves?

Austin spends $500M+ fighting homelessness, but the crisis is up 36%. Why? Because insiders engineered a system where nonprofits cycle public money into political power. Here’s how the loop works:

An internal audit WILL NOT rebuild trust with Austin taxpayers after the landslide defeat of Prop Q (63-37 with 109,000 voters rejecting the tax increase). We need an external audit of the city budget. Why would the Austin City Council NOT WANT to find waste, fraud, duplication or ineffective programs? Taxpayers are watching. Closely. Tick, tock. Tick, tock. #ATXcouncil
Austin CM Zo statement on tax increase Prop Q defeat. While it is not tone deaf like other CM statements it comes across as hinting at staff layoffs in my opinion. City employees should not be laid off to continue to stuff the pockets of all “non-profits” in Austin.

Austin CM Chito Vela’s statement on the tax increase Prop Q he was pushing hard for that failed. Chito now wants to increase our taxes in the form of a Bond next year. He still does not get it. This is what tone deaf failed leadership looks like folks 🤦‍♂️
My statement on the @austintexasgov election results.
All the Austin area TX Reps posted nothing about the Prop Q tax increase failing. TX Rep Bucy here didn’t touch it as he was all to consumed and thrilled by CA election results. Bucy doesn’t really care about his TX constituents affordability he wanted to raise everyone’s taxes
BREAKING: Californians just passed Prop 50 — stopping Trump from stealing the next election.   Texas lit the spark. We took our fight to the nation, and today, California answered.   Our democracy is worth fighting for. It’s gonna take all of us to do it.

Well there it is. Austin CM Fuentes threatening to cut essential city services in retaliation for not voting for her tax increase. City leaders did this to themselves and are taking it out on voters. Austin deserves better.

5/ I am really grateful Austinites came together and put their foot down on the never ending tax increases. We all should demand a clean, safe and affordable community and hold city leaders accountable.

4/ There is a new interest in local media reporting on frivolous city spending and this has been a long time coming. The spotlight is now on city leaders and staff on how they will address and balance the budget. Nothing should be unchecked and all should be held accountable.

3/ All non-core city govt role spending should be addressed and cut as the city has become bloated with these expenditures. The “non-profit” spending out of control and we can’t afford to fund every org coming to city hall with their hand out. This gravy train should end.
