Congrats to Kieva Tracey on being 1st lady home in the S2S Spirt at @westports2s. 31km of cycling & running includes 4km on Croagh Patrick!👏👏 Having being diagnosed with #FND last year, Kieva has shown incredible resilience & determination to return to competitive action.💚🧡

It’s a national scandal. Last March my daughter was dx with #FND & was in a wheelchair by July. The NHS would not budge, we went private, she had B12 deficiency. She is now running again & at ballet lessons. She’d still be in a wheelchair if we hadn’t got a 2nd opinion.

I find it really worrying that more under 16s are being dx with #FND when they have symptoms overlapping with B12 deficiency. Adults are able to buy B12 ampules if necessary but children are dependant on the correct dx & treatment @subversivepsych @Saffiya_Khan1 @1goodtern
So #MECFS and #LongCovid are “real,” but “functional” = not real? Medical journalism 101: words matter. “Functional” doesn’t mean unexplained. It means a disorder of function, not structure - research #FND. Don’t fix one narrative by trashing another.

Yes, but it still showed benefit and was presented at the IACFS/ME meeting. “Functional” means not explained by any known illness. Both ME and long covid are recognized illnesses.

Why are parents/carers having to fight so hard for years to get a diagnosis & treatment for #Pans #Pandas #B12 #Lyme #LongCovid? Why are the majority having to fund treatment? Why are so many NHS medics sceptical & opt for other diagnosis’s such as #FND #OCD #Anxiety? Just Why?😢
Heading back to London tomorrow to see our daughter’s consultant. It’s an expensive route we’ve gone down but the NHS are not helping 😔 Hopefully in the years / decades other families battling @PANSPANDASUK will have better support via the National Health Service
Amid the misinformation, Grok defines #FND paralysis as “feeling like they’re dying”. This, from the same system that labelled a functional seizure fake a few weeks ago. AI is dangerous for the medical field, especially for complex conditions where uncertainty still exists.

Psychogenic paralysis, part of functional neurological disorder (FND) or conversion disorder, involves sudden weakness or paralysis without a physical cause, often triggered by stress, trauma, or psychological factors. During an episode, a person may experience limb immobility, numbness, speech difficulties, or coordination issues, feeling like they're dying or permanently impaired. It's the brain's response to overwhelm, not "faking it." Recovery often involves therapy, rest, and addressing stressors; many improve fully. Glad you're recovering—take care.

🧠Neurology Pearl (3/7):Give-way weakness= functional 🔍Stroke weakness is consistent (e.g. 4/5 throughout testing) Functional weakness may show normal strength initially, then the muscle suddenly "collapses" against resistance 💡Pattern recognition matters #FND #NeuroExam #MedEd
Once you are properly diagnosed, it is important to go back and let people know. So that hopefully, if they get another patient presenting similarly to you, they wont also receive nonsensical bullshit diagnoses like #FND (#FunctionalNeurologicalDisorder).

Functional Neurological Disorder is still too often labelled as “medically unexplained”. That’s outdated. Here are 5 reasons why #FND shouldn’t be grouped under #MUS 👇

Just listened to this podcast on Functional Neurological disorder. The tone, the smirks and the psychogenic framing. Wrong on science, wrong in approach, wrong century. You don’t fight stigma by embodying it. #FND
