Per #Syria gov’t sources, 71 #ISIS militants were captured today in 62 targeted raids in #Homs, #Hama, #Idlib, #Aleppo, Deir ez Zour & the #Damascus countryside. That’s a massive operation — perhaps unprecedented in #Syria.

State media even credited #US intelligence for helping track #ISIS cells, unusual, to say the least. Yet the “evidence” shown by #Damascus looks recycled and unconvincing, feeding suspicions that this operation was more about optics than results!

#Syria: commenting on today's anti-#ISIS raids, the Interior Ministry spox stated: - the leader Abu Imad Jumaili was arrested - a suicide squad was neutralized in #Aleppo - Deir Ezzor province and the Badia (desert) were also targeted. IS cells previously killed a civilian in Afrin, carried out attacks against Defense Ministry personnel, were involved in kidnappings and targeted "various communities" to undermine the civil peace. One member of the Security was wounded in today's raids.
