I’m angry at how fast people are forgetting that Danya was a Chess. com employee, and that he was psychologically abused in front of everyone. I lost my little brother to suicide from psychological abuse; I recognize the patterns. It enrages me to see this being softened and rewritten.
Chess. com had a legal duty under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1967 to protect him, as he was their employee for many years. But they didn’t protect him. Instead, they broadcasted and monetized his slow collapse for years while millions watched. And Kramnik’s sustained targeting aligns with 18 U.S.C. §2261A (cyberstalking).
To those who were close to him — who have influence in this game — you have a real choice now. How do you honor his memory? By playing in the “Naroditsky Cup”? By applauding chess com hollow tribute videos that are also being monetized? Or by calling out the platform that let this happen and boycotting it?
My brother was humiliated at home. I can’t imagine being broken in front of the entire world while your own employer stayed silent. You have so much power. I hope you can find the best way to honor Danya.
