I've always loved this about early disco. The music played had some broad sonic similarities, but there was really a tremendous amount of variation. Francis Grasso (RIP) was known to mix the screams from "Whole Lotta Love" over the drum break from Chicago's cover of "I'm a Man."

My copy of Metal Machine Music is ex-disco, not kidding.
