I publicly came out as trans right when I turned 40. I had been quietly on HRT for several years before that & would shave my face everyday to avoid coming out. It wasn’t an easy thing for me to do. I didn’t want to be trans. I was full of internalized transphobia. I tried everything under the sun for it not to be true. No, I wasn’t trans. No way. Not me. Then I turned 40 and threw the doors wide open to my own personal trans liberation. Best decision ever. Transphobes think this is just something we wake up and decide to be one day. Nothing could be further from the truth for a lot of us. We struggle, we deny, we wrestle with it. Until one day, I just couldn’t deny that I was simply transgender 🏳️‍⚧️
